From Prison to Preacher

God

Born in Port Arthur, Texas and raised Catholic, Rusty's passion in life was football. This passion and ferocity led to a football scholarship at Louisiana State University. In 1973, Russell joined the LSU Fighting Tiger football team.

His life’s highest and lowest points occurred on the same day. In 1976, LSU opened the season against the top-ranked, Nebraska Cornhuskers. Near the end of the game, Rusty blocked a critical, field-goal attempt by the Cornhuskers. The block preserved a 6-6 tie for the LSU Tigers.

“To celebrate the game, I went to a bar near the campus,” he remembers. “I took more drugs after the game. This time downers. After leaving the bar, I got into a conflict. I was arrested and put in jail for attempted murder. I was later convicted of attempted manslaughter, which brought a sentence — five years probation, one year in a state correction home and one year working with teenagers in New Orleans.”

While in confinement, Rusty began begging God to release him from the confinement home. Four months later, the home closed and instead of moving Rusty to another institution, he was released.

After being released, Rusty was miraculously re-admitted to LSU. He was also invited to the Chapel on the Campus to hear Billy Graham’s associate, Cliff Barrows.

Before the message, the pastor of the church invited everyone to stand and pray out loud. Not even realizing what he was doing, he stood up and said, “Lord, forgive me for what I did and I ask that these people forgive me.” Instantly, Rusty knew that he had been born again.

Rusty began growing in God, and after completing his studies at LSU, decided to attend Bible college in Dallas, Texas. In 1983, Rusty returned to Baton Rouge to minister at Christian Life Fellowship.

Until early 1996, Rusty served at CLF as both Associate Pastor and as Spiritual Life Director for the Christian Life Academy. During his association with the church, he led mission teams to India and Africa. In June 1996, Rusty and his family moved to Nairobi, Kenya to serve as missionaries.

After spending 2 years in Nairobi the Domingue’s returned to Baton Rouge where they base out of as the minister to the world.

It is with great pride I recommend Russell Domingue, who has worked by my side for the past fourteen years. During this time, he has served as Associate Pastor, Youth Pastor, Cell Group Coordinator, Foreign Missions Director, Prayer Coordinator and has performed many other tasks.

He has been a productive, faithful inspiration to all who have worked with him. He has led numerous short-term mission trips to various places around the world.

For many years, Russell and I have talked about his desire to fulfill his calling to go into missionary evangelism on a full time basis. I am in agreement and support of these plans.

The integrity in ministry that he has demonstrated in these past fourteen years will serve him well in his endeavors as a missionary evangelist. I fell as though we are literally giving our best to the Kingdom. I can state without equivocation that any seed that you plant into Russell’s ministry will return to you a thousand fold.

Having served the Lord for over 20 years in Africa, it has been my privilege to have ministered with many different men of God in various outreaches, conferences and meetings — our goal being to both plant local churches and establish existing ones in Kenya.

I have had the joy of serving with Russell Domingue in numerous ministry endeavors toward this end. In fact, Russell brought a team with him from the States back in 1987 to help us begin Nairobi Lighthouse Church, which I presently pastor in the capital city of Kenya.

I have known Russell for 10 years, and from the time of our acquaintance until today, I have always been challenged by his intensity toward the things of God. He is determined to glean a harvest of souls in whatever place in the world he is serving Jesus.

Russell has an incredible heart to see people come into the Kingdom of God, regardless of their culture or background, and is in no way intimidated by the powers of darkness upon any person to whom he is ministering.

I wholeheartedly encourage you to stand with our dear brother, his wife and family as they go forth into full-time work in the mission fields of the world. Our church is gladly doing the same for the honor and glory of Christ Jesus, the Lord of the harvest.

I have known Russell and Denise for over 10 years. We have traveled together on the mission fields and have spent many hours together in prayer.

God has given Russell great faith to see spiritual results on the mission field. He goes into a country expecting God to minister through the power of the Holy Ghost.

I have often commented that Russell is fearless as he enters into various nations. He is not afraid of the challenge, the circumstances nor the spiritual forces he may encounter.

Russell is also faithful to the call God has given him. His prayer life and love of the Word of God mark him as a God-called missionary-evangelist for the last days.

I highly recommend anyone to support his efforts as he plants his ministry in the soil of overseas evangelism!
